For the successful execution of a construction project, effective planning is necessary. The construction work is completed by number of effective workers working together with each other in an amorous manner. The construction management hierarchy incorporates all these management levels in a well organized manner. The major levels in the construction management hierarchy are described as designations from the highest construction management level to the lowest construction management level attained in brief as below in this article. Top Level Construction Management

The highest administrative level in the construction management hierarchy.

  • Project Manager – A project manager in the construction management hierarchy is the top most level. He is a professional in the field of construction related project management. Project managers have the responsibility of the planning, execution and closing of any construction project.
  • Senior Engineers – The subordinate to project manager are the senior engineers (civil, mechanical, electrical etc.) who take the responsibility of the management of the design, development, manufacturing and sales of tools, engines, machines and other construction devices. They play a vital role in the construction management hierarchy. They finalize all the designs, product qualities and check the construction milestones.

Middle Level Construction Management

The mid level administrative level in the construction management hierarchy. The professionals at this level are actually involved in construction related activities.

  • Architects – Architects are the specialized designers who are responsible for determining how a building will be designed. These are the highest executive level professionals and involved in determining the overall design prior to the construction which becomes the base map for the construction.
  • Junior Engineers – They are also referred to as the civil technicians and possess specialized knowledge pertaining to a certain field of construction engineering that involves the designing and improvising of public works infrastructures and systems like bridges, water & sewage waste systems and highways etc.

Lower Level Construction Management

The lowest administrative level in the construction management hierarchy.

  • Iron workers – They assemble the structural framework in accordance with engineered drawings. These professionals are involved in erecting or dismantling of the structural steel framework for pre-engineered single & multi-storey buildings, metal buildings, towers, bridges, stadiums and arenas.
  • Tradesman – A tradesman is a skilled manual worker in a particular trade or craft. For example the carpenter, plumber etc.

Labor – These are the unskilled people who do one of the construction trades. They are responsible to perform construction based activities using blasting, power tools, hand tools, air tools, and small heavy equipment. These may also act as assistants to other workers involved in construction activities of little higher level by working as operators or cement masons.
